Hugo99
I am a technically based trader. An IBD type of setup is what I normally prefer which means selecting
stocks with strong fundamentals, strong chart patterns, solid accumulation and a high relative strength
rating. In a good market I prefer swing trading small cap stocks with such characteristics. However, in
more difficult markets I will trade based upon what I believe the market is offering at the current time.
That normally will mean shortening my time frame and reducing the size of my trades
I started my career back in 1983 as a stock broker/financial advisor. The stock market was always of
great interest to me and yet brokerages firms are mainly fundamental based investors and pay little
attention to the technicals. It wasn’t until that I found The Street.Com/Real Money in 1999 that I began
to learn more about the technical side of the market. When The Rev Shark(James DePorre) joined the
site in 2002 and began to preach of his style and how individuals had certain advantages and shouldn’t
be hesitant to use them I began to develop my current style. I began to spend my days on Rev’s site in
2006 and there began to trade with Quint who took much time to teach traders new to their style the
ropes. We had some pretty good success there and when Quint decided to break away and develop
Tickerville I immediately followed. I have been on his site since day one and we have done well. The
traders on our site are well prepared, humble and we expect success. No end zone dances are allowed.
The market has been good enough to me that in 2009 I was able to sell my business and begin to trade
full time for a living. I had been working towards this goal since 2006 and now get to focus my full
energy on what I truly enjoy. I believe I gradually get better as a trader all the time but still have quite a
bit to learn. Tickerville is a fantastic site for one to come and develop their trading skills.

Zone Bones
I found Quint Tatro on the internet years ago and followed him to his site, Tickerville. The civility and community based atmosphere was refreshing to say the least. Everything I’ve done in my life has been the hard way. I have recognized thru the years that I just don’t like asking for help. Teaching myself as I go, in business and investing. Being a charter member I have learned a lot, without asking for help most of the time, the teaching is always there, if you look for it or ask, however. This is a business where the learning never ends. Like many I was glad to learn that there was more than just buy and hold when it came to investing.
After graduating from Virginia Tech, I started a concession business… Actively participating in this business for 20 years until the last 5 years when I decided to trade year round and to quit trying to do both during the summer months. The business is still active but without me mostly. Since 1985 I have been managing my family’s money, thoroughly upsetting the family stockbroker as I withdrew our accounts. I did one stint with a financial firm, becoming a licensed financial advisor. Selling funds etc. that I wouldn’t have bought for myself became too much of a conflict for me.
I like to think of myself as a versatile trader that can short, go long, day trade, and swing trade, as the market dictates which approach will work with the appropriate stock. And it is the traders job to find it. But I have recognized that my forte is taking high beta names in a strong market or a strong sector and selling some and swinging the rest over time. I even do this with big old stodgy stocks that I find that are just being discovered as they recover out of a base from some dismal scenario. Trading around a winner for me is also something that is very rewarding, both financially and emotionally. I also like to find themes early. This is very hard at times, but can be very nice for the bottom line.
I am married and have one daughter, we live in southwest Virginia.
